I am outputting all of my Audio to offboard Amplification, either via an USB to SPDIF in computer room or airport Express SPDIF in Lounge Both go to AV amps and speakers.

My Knowledge is limited on the detail but as i understand it if I alter the Volume on the PC (On iTunes or on the PC Volume Mixer) it modifies the volume in the Digital Domain which as I understand it is not a good thing as it reduces the resolution and increases Signal to Noise.

Firstly Is my understanding correct?

Secondly What I am doing basically is Maxing the volume out of the PC and than controlling the level via the Amp is this this right thing to do.

Yes max everything on the computer and adjust with your amp.

"Max" as in set at 100%, unaltered, to get 'bitperfect' output, not as in as loud as possible. With volume leveling it is also possible to increase the volume >100% in the digital domain.
