Hi - I'd appreciate any thoughts on the relative merits of these two sets. Both are now comparable in price. In terms of spec, the Pana has the larger screen and 100Hz picture but the Sony is Full HD. Another option could be to stretch to a Full HD Panasonic.... but that's more cash.

Any thoughts and advice welcome please.

My current set up is Panasonic TH37PX80, Sky HD and Pioneer DVD player. I plan to invest in a blue-ray player next year but the majority of what we watch will still be Sky and DVDs. I am upgrading the TV as, whilst the picture is great, I wish I'd gone for a bigger screen when I bought it 6 months ago and a relative has offered to buy it off me which give me the unexpected chance to correct the sizing mistake :)

From reading the numerous threads on here it is apparent that once you've had plasma, there's no turning back. I'm in the same situation as you (37PX80) and am looking at buying a Pioneer once the market settles down.

The only LCD I'd think of buying, dependent on reviews, would be the 46X4500, and that's a whole lotta money.

I am keeping my PX though, as I really do love the picture. You'll have to test the tvs yourself I'm afraid (you're eyes know what you like) but at least you have experience of the PX series.

I agree that a full HD screen at these sizes (40-42) are not necessary - my mate has the 40x3000 and he says my pics better on SD and as good on upscaled dvd.
