More isn't always best and albeit with the Pioneers being great TV's, that's not say that they quite simply outshine either the Panasonic or indeed the Samsung models mentioned above.
You can buy a Pioneer 428XD for around £1,600.00, the Pansaonic 42THPX70 for £768 and that Samsung PS420Q97HDX close on their heels, for a ridiculous price around £695. Now........is the difference between first and last so wide that the Pioneer takes precedence. In my opinion no......essentially you pay for the priviledge of owning that Pioneer logo at the bottom of the Screen whereas Sam Sung by comparison may well sound a bit like your local take away albeit the food is still quite simply, delicious!
If I had the money to burn, I would go out and but a Pioneer PDP428XD just to say " Look I have a Pioneer Plasma TV' . However, as I don't I next have to consider a suitable alternative in terms of sheer value for money, and also the fact that in any case the Pioneer is not streaks ahead of either of the other two models when it comes to picture quality.
Therefore right now my only dilemma is to decide between the Panny or visiting my local take away and in my view the Panny come out on top especially too as you can get for less than £800..........Why spend twice as much I ask myself for a Pioneer.......No need............Job done. My local Panasonic shop is selling the Panny for £1,049 which I'm not prepared, but armed with enough information now on the model, courtesy of the shop, having seen it in action with both SD and HDTV and suitably impressed with it's Nicam Sound levels.......It's the one I've decided to go for.
Just have to tell the wife now
