Pairing a stereo amp with an AV receiver: power consideration

Hello all,

Would anyone be able to offer advice about pairing a stereo amp with an AV receiver in terms of watts per channel, please? I have an Onkyo TX-SR875 receiver which apparently produces approx. 200 watts/channel, so would a stereo amp producing 80 watts/channel be powerful enough when watching films etc.?

Yes, no problems at all. The 875 is actually quoted at 140W per channel, and you can adjust the channel balance to level things up with your stereo amp.
