Onkyo vs slimline av receiver

Just wondered how do slimline av receivers compare to my ageing onkyo 606? Not interested in network stuff just sound.. All comments welcome!

You might need to be a bit more specific - were you thinking of the Marantz slimline receivers?

Sorry, yes I was thinking of either the marantz or Yamaha. I have the mordant short alumni speakers which I have no interest in upgrading. Would either of these brands be a better match and would I gain a sonic improvement over the onkyo 606 that I currently have?

I recently purchased a Marantz receiver and I think it sounds fantastic! Bought it to replace my Yamaha one because I wasn't happy with it's sound. Well I can't comment on wether your speakers would be a good match, but here's a few reviews of slimline Marantz Receivers, hopefully that'll give you an idea of there sound.
