I am looking for an amp to drive a set of Tannoy Arena (with TS300) speakers.

Denon 2808 & Onkyo 806 are available at £499

Onkyo 876 is £650 (refurb) or £700 new

I know the 876 has more features but to be honest I'm not too bothered by features. I'm going to be using it for 5.1 (possibly 7.1 later) but all of these will support that.

Is the 876 worth £200 over the 806? It's going to be enclosed in a wooden cabinet so I'm a bit concerned about heat dissipation issues as well.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

James

I don't know about the 876 but the 875 runs very hot. I think it's to do with video processing chips. I've got a 2808 and are very happy with it. It sounds great to me paired with Kef 2005.2 peakers. The learning remote is very good and easy to use. Much better than the onkyo. I know this should not be a deciding factor. One thing of note is the 2808 only has 2 HDMI inputs. Not very future proof in the great scheme of things. I'm OK in that I have x-box 360 via componant and BD via HDMI leaving a spare one for future Sky+ HD.
