Old Panasonic PX70 seems to better than new full HD 50GS10??

I have a 3 year old 42 inch Panasonic HR ready TV (the one that came with the matching silver stand) prety sure it's the PX70?

My father in law has purchased a new 50 inch Full HD model (think it's 50GS10 or G10??)

Anyway, the picture seems to be much better quality on mine than his. When not on Sky HD, his normal channels are not as sharp as mine at all. I have tried playing with the remote etc but still not a patch on mine. is that purely due to the bigger screen, hence worse picture??

Bigger screen, and possibly due to the new TV having to scale a standard definition image to a higher resolution. If it was a silver stand then it's probably the PX60, the PX70 was black.

Your Panasonic PX60/70 was only 720p (HD ready) I think, & the G10 is 1080p (Full HD). SD images have to upscale less to 720p as compared to 1080p. Ofcourse, SD images also have to fill only a 42-inch screen which will look better than a 50-inch screen. Obviously, your old Panasonic displays SD images better than the newer full HD Panasonic.
