"What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision should be at the heart of the industry." Whatever next?

Like Andrew (and many of my colleagues), I spend a considerable amount of time travelling around to major exhibitions (CES in Las Vegas, IFA in Berlin, CEDIA in the UK & USA) and visiting manufacturers in Europe, the Far East and North America where we meet and talk to all the major (and not so major) players.

As Andrew says, this is all part of our research and helps us give you, the reader, a better understanding of what's happening in the consumer electronics market.

So I've spent a considerable amount of time this year sitting in on presentations and technical seminars on 3D TV, for example, and many fascinating hours in South Korea talking to the technical experts at LG and Samsung, among others.

This doesn't mean I know everything and have all the answers - but it does mean I'm reasonably well informed on the subjects I write about, as are Andrew and the rest of my colleagues.

And there are several other non-Haymarket hi-fi and AV magazines available if you want to buy them. It's just that What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision outsells them all - so we must be doing something right.

id say flatscreen and his student pals are getting a good laugh from his posts on here , quite why a student would care so much about the future of tv and whfis principles i cant understand , their probably all sitting around a laptop drinking cider having a great crack from this thread ...

If you are right in your assessment of the situation and, as undergraduates, they find that sort of thing amusing then I truly feel for them. The joke, I would imagine, is on them and their inablity to properly construct any meaningful argument, rather producing a series of incomprehensible, incoherent and unfounded ramblings which demonstrate an innate inability to comprehend that which they are being told, and also a distinct difficulty in grasping other points of view, analysing information, drawing sensible conclusions or taking anything on board. (No offence intended Flatscreen/ Saw5suffer)

I doubt that this is the case though. I imagine Flatscreen/ Saw5suffer, for all his faults, is probably fairly interested in technology, otherwise it would seem like a bit of a waste of time. Wouldn't it?

its good to see those that work at Whathifi Towers actually getting involved in this thread, many a time i have seen boards get slated by its users, only to see that the owners don't even defend themselves. good job!

FLATSCREEN:
3D TV will revolutionise the TV industry! If you are an investor you will go 'long' and reap rewards.James Murdock knows this. It will arrive first with PC games, then digital cameras[already here but needs work]. 3D TV and 3D broadcast, HD bluray will be the climax. Japan and Korea will adopt first. Those guys are aways first will the latest..their mobiles are in 5th gen phase!

Sony intends to lead this one, Howard Stringer have issued the battle calls, don't let anyone tell you its going to falter. Hollywood wants it as bad as Sky.

Its almost virtual reality reinvented, not quite Lawnmover man stuff, for games as you enter another world......chilling implications???

Actually I think that what 'Sony intends' at present is to make sure that it becomes properly profitable again, like most major companies. The aim, as far as I can see, is to achieve a business model across its territories and its various departments that results in an entity which is more fit for purpose in the changing landscape of what, at present, is a very challenging industry. We've enjoyed a superb product range this year across all areas of the business and I'm confident Sony will build on that massively in the coming months.

The threats of any new developments flatering are all too real for every company in the industry and the whole reason we are seeing changes within all the major manufacturers is because they are very aware of the great challenges ahead in a quickly saturating market with increasingly cautious and, sometimes even suspicious, customers.

Andrew Everard:That covers the cars bit. Heading over to 1980 should take care of the other preference...

Bet you can't say that again while Sir H drinks a glass of water...

TVs are boys toys. You don't see babes going on about TVs. Performance Cars....real boys toys! You want to impress a babe, its in fourwheels and not TVs. I could get into a debate about Cars but not on 3DTVs. B and O BEOvision TVs are bankers choice. We don't buy anything else? I aren't in the big time yet, but I just got THE job, The Banking fraternity screw the public and get rewarded and then order some B and O gear....thats life. If you have not hear a pair of B/O electrostats you haven't lived. I like to see a upmarket magazine on Audio and Visual.

Why is it that I can't see this WhatHIFI publication in Sainsbury or WH Smiths?? Is there some circulation problem? I get my EVO from WHS Smiths. .

Really, do you think so? Bankbonus seems an altogether different breed. Flatscreen/saw5suffer seemed genuinely interested in technological developments where as the most recent newcomer seems to be more concerned with cars and showing off.

I will concede that the random comment at the end seemed a little odd, out of place and irrelevant to whatever discussion is left on this thread, if any, and therefore does carry the stylistic hallmarks of F/s5s.

slewis:One word springs to mind but i can't print it.

I agree with whatever word you're thinking of.

At a second glance, the style does seem somewhat similar. Max might well be right.
