New vinyl

Hi everyone, do you all clean new records before playing, I don't mean just a brush down with anti static brush. I have just got grace by Jeff Buckley new sealed, on playing it pops and farts like my old cortina! I have cleaned it but it's still too annoying on the quiet bits! Safe to say I won't be going back to it! What's the best way to clean them from new? Cheers 👍

if an LP has that bad a surface from new no method of cleaning is going to cure it, unfortunately.

The surface looks spotless, it's only when I play it it pops! The intro grooves have noise too! Was wandering if the vinyl wasn't new but repackaged! Guess I'll never know!

Have you cleaned your stylus??
If it was sold as new and sealed then it should be.
Where did you get it from and which label is it?
If my copy had that much surface noise I would have sent it back.

Stylus isnt worn, i got the record from Amazon, I think I will return it! I have had some noisy vinyl before but none as bad as this! Cheers!

Sorry the label says columbia, music on vinyl!

Cracks and pops on a new record suggest possible stylus alignment issues.
Are you sure the stylus is perfectly aligned ?

if that were the case surely he'd get cracks and pops on all records?
To me it sounds like he simply has a bad pressing.

Thank you yes I have checked alignment and also did weight test, I think in this case it is just a bad pressing! But I still really want to know the best way to clean records without professional machines, and should new vinyl be cleaned. Thank you got your reply 👍

A Knosti Antistat will do a reasonable job without costing too much money.
I have one.
It will do a good job of removing any surface residue left from pressing.

Pointless buying records without cleaning New & Used should be cleaned

Clean Records
Sound Better
Stylus lasts 30/50% longer
reduces pops , clicks & static
Reduce record wear

As Al said in above post
Knosti / distilled water & pop into new anti static inners
If you have a decent collection £300/500 gets you a nice vacuum RCM

75G will kill a human
Stylus can reach 20,000G as it travels side to side / up and down the tiny grooves of a record

It is unfortunate that some seem to think cleaning a new record is essential.
Can't say I do it myself and the idea that if you don't it will detract from the life of your stylus is never anything I have seen definitely proven.
The whole idea sounds like something those manufacturers of cleaning equipment would spout.
No harm trying tho as some may have releasant residue from the pressing processes still adhering.

You say it as if it's a meaningless or inferior tactic against "pops and farts". I have a decades-old Deema Carbotex Antistatic carbon fiber brush that still keeps my newer and older records sufficiently clean and quite quiet. I also keep a nice little also-old brush next to it to stroke my stylus tenderly occasionally. If and when records crackle or pop despite my efforts, they're donated.

I've never vacuumed my grooves nor, admittedly, examined them microscopically.

Correct 👍 it is just this record, surface noise begins the moment the needle hits the intro groove!
