It would be very interesting to know whether the current amps can be upgraded to the new specification and what that would cost.

They certainly look very interesting on paper, especially with the built-in DAC.

I presume that, unless you have other digital sources requiring a DAC that in most cases it won't be worth upgrading - did you get any idea whether the DAC in the new 8 series amp is any different from that in the CD 8SE for example?

Great! Thanks for letting me know, Messiah.

BTW, I notice that you have a Cyrus 7 Amp. I always wondered whether they can still be upgraded to current specifications. Do you know?

I am pretty sure it can. It could be upgraded to the 8vs2 and that in turn can be upgraded to the new 8XPd so I would assume an upgrade from 7 to 8XPd is possible.

Also, I think the DAC in the Amp is equavalent to that in the CD6SE.

Smart move. Cyrus really seems to change according to market demand- as far as my very limited knowledge extends, anyway.......

Listened to Benchmark dac a week ago; this weekend dacmagic & also AVI ADM9. Cyrus is now also on my list. Got to know what all the fuss is about.

Thanks, Messiah. That's good to know. Given that they don't mention it on their site, I thought that maybe the upgrade offer only pertained to the current range.

Mike_Schmidt:Has anyone got a chance to listen to the new cyrus amps?

Hi Mike,

I have posted another thread about my experience at the show here. As for the sound of the new amps - I did not hear a marked improvement to be honest. But like many of my experiences this day, a longer demo time may be needed to really appreciate the kit.

Yeah I'd agree with that, with the exception of the Dali Lektor 1 and 2 which I spent a little while listening to (the Kings of Leon album is REALLY badly recorded!) I wouldn't choose any of the kit I heard based solely on what I heard at the show, you've got to listen to it in a controlled environment, listening to music you know, at the volumes you usually listen at.
