Richer Sounds seem to be selling off some of their Cambridge Audio stock. The 540C, 640C and 640A (silver versions) are all significantly reduced on their website. Are CA about to release the 540 and 640 v3? (Sorry if this is all old rumour, I'm new to this Hi-Fi world.)

More importantly, as I'm in the market for my first Hi-Fi, should I be trying to snaffle one of these bargains, or waiting to see what the new versions are like? I did try a couple of shops for the 640s, but they didn't have any stock. However one guy did say he might be able to offer me the 540A, 540C and M-Short 902i for £400. Should I have bitten his hand off?

RS are offering the 640 amd and CD V2 variants with MS 902's for £399 - that sounds like a good deal to me. Superfi however, are offering an excellent NAD / Q Acoustics system for £371 which was well rated in WHF a month or two back. Horses for courses, but it depends on your budget, the sound you want, etc,. etc. Both are very good however and probably worth shortlisting if you're in the market for a new set-up.

Just a word of warning you really need to compare the CA amps against other makes because from my point of view and a fair amount of other peoples to, they lack in slam and in presence.

I have had Cambridge for years, and the NAD kicks the rubbish out of Cambridge all day and night :)

So happy with it!
