New 5.1 setup required: Onkyo all-in-one system or anything better out there?

While I can't comment on this specific package, I brought a similar one 2 years ago and its been great. For a first time 5.1 set up its very good, and as the description suggests its essentially one of Onkyo's new 308 amps and I'd suggest that this would be good for your needs. If the speakers are anything like what came with mine (which by the picture look like they are) they're also pretty good, though obviously not as good as some of the other ones out there. For £299 its a pretty good deal all round. I've still got the amp from mine 2 years on, but have recently upgraded the speakers to some Q Acoustics 1010is, as they're currently very reasonable.

Alternatively, for just over £500, you could potentially pick up some Q Acoustics for £299 from Richer Sounds, plus the Onkyo 308 for £229 which might give you better performance. Other members might also have some other options for you.

Hope that helps!

You should go with a sure choice of a proven product, like the Sony BDV-E300 or Panasonic SC-BT200.
