Yes, some prefer 3LCD as they cannot tolerate the rainbow effect on DLPs and others swear by it. Personally, I've got the Sony HW40ES which is 3LCD and is excellent.
I know Sony is expensive so they should be better in some way compared to Epson. But I am not sure if I can justify double the price of Epson for the same resolution and quality.
I did purchase the Epson EH-TW7400 to upgrade my Sony to 4K but returned it as the 3D wasn't as good. It was a brilliant projector on its own, but I had the advantage of side by side comparison.
There was quite a bit of crosstalk. It was ok on its own, but Sony was better. The disadvantage of Sony is that you have to pay quite a bit for 4K. Hopefully the new projectors coming out later this year will be cheaper.
