Hello.

Finally i have chance to upgrade my system, so i want to drop off mine yamaha rx v671 from

Wharfedale Evo-2 30 and give them some proper amplifier.

Mostly i listen jazz, soul and new wave.

Always loved warn vocal.

My budget is 2 000$.

Thank you for help.

What brands do you have access to?

I would be looking at:

- Musical Fidelity

- Audio Analogue

- Electrocompaniet

- Pathos

- Peachtree

- Arcam

- Creek

- Unison Research Unico

Musical Fidelity or Roksan not sure which models are available for that sum but prob the M3 and the Kandy K2 or maybe the Naim 5i ??

You might want to listen to a valve amplifier if your preference is for a warm sound especially on jazz and vocals. There are many reasonably priced far Eastern valve amplifiers (< $500) all the way up to exotic European, American and Japanese valve amplfiiers. They aren't the most practical of amplifiers especially if you have limited space (for ventilation) and have children running about, but most people will say they sound sublime with the type of music you seem to like (although not sure about the 'new wave') .

I am certainly saw Musical Fidelity,Roksan and Unison Research Unico.

Also remember how i look on Kandy K2 and Naim 5i.

Forget to say, i dont mind to buy used amplifier.

To tell the true, i am a little scared of valve amplifiers.

You need to replace tube in every 2-3 years, and they seems hard to find.

That's a great start.

You either need to bring them home to try (ideal), or you need to bring your speakers to the amp (if the dealer doesn't stock them).

Yeah, that is main problem.

I live in small town.

Nobody will drive to me, and idea to transport such big speakers to shop seems unreal.

I tried to find some place with my speakers and at least some amplifiers, but no luck.

So it seems all i can do is believe in other opinions and reviews.

A good dealer will allow you to collect the amp and try it.....though you will likely have to pay for it, but get refunded if not suitable. Dealers know how difficult it is to make an informed decision, without first hearing how it sounds in situ.

Another brand to check out is Sugden.

I used to think the same, but valves are easy and reasonably cheap to source. Also bear in mind that the Unison Research Unico is a hybrid amplifier which means it has a valve (two in fact) for preamplification.

Have you considered Bel Canto (warmish sounding Class D amp), Yamaha AS1000 (big sounding amp with great build quality).
