Need advice on a new AV amp!

Last week a plumber working at the flat above flooded my place and ruined my DVD player and the Yamaha DSP AX761.

I have always had Yamaha amps and always bought them from my local dealer for a similar prices as at Richer Sounds. He is telling me that the RX765 is not that good and offering me a Pioneer VSX 919/1019 AHK instead!

Has anyone got any of these or any other suggestions, but not an Onkyo?

If you can stretch to £500, you can get Yamaha's RXV1065 - your dealer won't be able to argue with that recommendation!!

Recently i upgraded my Yamaha Rxv 800 to Marantz Sr 6003, i can tell it's a worthy upgrade. the sound is superb, both for movies n music..

Having had Yamahas for years (3 amps) and nearly ordered the VX765 but decided to move on! I am picking up a Sony 2400ES later today. Just because everything else I have now are Sony and expecting a lot out of the Bravia Sync button for the convenient sake! Hope I've done the right thing!! Thank you all for your advice.
