Multi Region Blu-ray and DVD

Hi Folks,

After trying out my buddies PS3 I'm going to purchase a dedicated blu-ray player, but as i have a lot of 'other' region discs, are these Blu-ray players region locked for standard DVD's as well as Blu-ray?

There are companies out there offering multiregion modifications for both BD and DVD playback, but of course these invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.
