Hi, I am considering buying Monitor Audio RS speakers for home cinema and music. My receiver is VSX LX51 Pioneer and I have the BDP 51FD player and Samsung 40" M86 1080p display. My room is 11.5' x 11.5' (3.5m x 3.5m).

Which of the range do you recommend?

RS1 - small but tight bass and no boom?

I love the way the RS6 look but too big?

I'm def going to get the matching RSLCR whatever. But which stereo pair? Music is very important to me (Marantz CD 6002) and I hate boomy bass spoiling my listening! Which one for my smallish room?

Thanks!

I have the RS6's and they arent that big and the quality of build is excellent. More like a piece of furniture than hi-fi. Go for it, you WONT be dissapointed !

That is quite a small room for floorstanders but the RS6s are quite small. I would see if you could get a home demo.

Cheers guys. Do you think that the bass on the rs6 would be too overwhelming? I can't have them more than a foot out from the rear wall either...

What about RS5? Or RS1 and stands?

Thanks

I had rs6 and wouldnt put them in room so small especially if you can`t make enough free space(wouldnt put them anything less then 45-60cm from the wall).

Not sure about rs5 but rs1 look like the way to go,

Thanks for that lazar1980.

RS1 looking fav at the moment.

Just seen the radius 270 floorstanders. Are these OK for music as they look like dedicated HC to me. They look stunning though and with a smaller frame, bass is not going to be an issue in my small room.

What do you think?

Don`t know about radius range but as you stated stereo music as important I could suggest( based on what I read from people more experienced in AV) getting stereo amp also to do the job of front left and right.

Hope that helps if it doesn`t confuse!!!

Am I right in thinking that, in order to get a stereo amp to power L+R, I would need to preout of my Pioneer?

If so, should I just get a stereo power amp as I would be bypassing the preamp in the stereo integrated anyway?

Interesting option but as I stated never had multichannel receiver so I guess someone with more experience could jump in and explain for both of us

No you wouldn't be. You would only be by-passing the preamp in the stereo amp for AV duty. You would only need your stereo amp on for music.

I've just read that you are intent on getting the RSLCR, in that case, go for the RS1s instead of the radius speakers for your front two. I use RS6s with the RSLCR and the RSW12 with Radius 90s as rears.

Good point Gerrard. So CDP straight to integrated straight to RS1... Might look at matching PM6002. Supposed to be excellent. Will it really be that much better than my Pio LX51 though?

It will definitely be a bit better but you can add a much better stereo amp to those speakers than the Marantz. RS are selling the 840A v2 (graded - mail order returns with 12 month guaranty) for only £599! Or you can get the same as me (the 840A v1) for £449. These will completely outclass the Marantz and your Pioneer for stereo.

I would certainly go for the RS1s. On decent stands (I used Partington Superdreadnoughts) they will sound great and I think the bass will certainly be fine for that size of room. I also used to use mine quite close to the rear wall.
