The above package received a good 'first review' in the latest magazine, but it is suggested that the B&W 685 theatre package is a touch better.....

Now, how about changing the front BX2's for the BX5's, which in turn makes it a fairer 'fight' as both packages would cost about the same.....

As Harry Hill would say......'I like the frontstanders on the BX package, but I also like the reviews/awards that the B&W package has received.......but which one is best????......

'FIGHT!!!!'

Anyone know? Or demo'd both?

Not really sure that compairing floorstanders to standmounts is a fairer fight, tbh!

Surely working with price points is the name of the game...

If one manufacturer can produce a package with floorstanders, whilst another can only give standmounted one's, then it's fair if it's the same price point?

The extra cost of floorstanders must go into another area of the standmounted package?

Of course, I have not added the cost of good stands in the price of the B&W package....

Im looking to purchase the BX2 AV 5.1 system but dropping the subwoofer for a SW150 as its a lot cheaper. Then it becomes £700 instead of £990.

I honestly think the BX2 system isnt in the same class as the B&W 685 as 40% of the price of the BX2 5.1 system is the subwoofer and the BX2 Stereo Speakers are half the price of the B&W 685 Stereo Speakers

Thanks Craig......

But my suggestion was to change the front BX2's for the floorstanding BX5's, to make it a fairer 'shoot out' between the B&W package......

So in effect, I perhaps should have called this thread, 'Monitor Audio BX5 AV package....'

I didn't realise that there was such a package when I started this thread....

Hi Pistol Pete1

The BX5, BXC, BX-FX's and BXW10 is a superb AV speaker package and one that punch above its weight.

Thanks Rick.......And how does it compare to the mighty B&W 685 package???

Is the Monitor Audio package good with expressing treble detail? (bright speakers?) I find the QA package at the moment lacks the high end detail a bit....but I do like the bass the QA 1030i produce in 2 channel stereo...

Is the Monitor Audio package a big enough 'step up' from what i have now?

I use the QA 1000Ci centre with the QA 1030i floorstanders at the moment........with no problems.

I imagine the MA centre would be fine........

Just found the Monitor Audio BX6 AV package, which would compare price wise to the B&W 685 package plus stands.....

BX6 package much better than the BX5 package, Rick?

Or does the fact that the BX5 package uses all the same speaker cone sizes make it a more coherent, intergrated sound?

Should get my new Acoustic Energy Radiance sub tomorrow.......hope it's as good as it's meant to be...

Hi Pistol Pete1

The BX Series is very good at expressing treble detail without the HF becoming bright. I feel the the BX speakers will be a step up from what you presently got and i also think the Monitor Audio's will also be match with your amp than the 685 package.

Hi Pistol Pete1

Yes, the BX6's are better then the BX5's. The BX6's offer greater dynamics, scale and depth then the BX5's.

I feel a demo coming on......

Thanks Rick for your help.......

I assume this set up will work well with the Acoustic Energy Radiance sub I've ordered? It ought to be quite impressive at RRP £500-600. (Didn't pay anywhere near that!!)

Hi Pistol Pete1

I've not heard the BX speakers with an AE sub although i think the combination should be fine.

All the best

Lastly, I forgot to ask.......

Would the BX1's be ok as rear speakers, or does the BXFX sound better for effect dispersion?

Thanks......

Hi Pistol Pete1

The BX-FX's will offer superior effects to the BX1's.

All the best
