I too would be interested in some before-during-after pics. I just pray you don't frazzle the speakers, or worse, yourself Rik.

I'm not an electrician, but I am a fairly competant engineer and have had some training with electrics. My only issue is the closeness of one of the capacitor connections to a speaker one.

As it stands, I fitted some brand new RA mains cables to 5 items in my system which are changing the way my system sounds. So until that settles im not moving forward. I want to know exactly how my system sounds before attempting the mod.

Its nice to know some forum users are interested in the mod. All I ever seem to read these days are complete noobs asking questions or people sprouting the same old arguments (or even just ridiculing just for the sake of it).

I was considering upgrading my speakers, but to fully upgrade a surround sound system to something thats markedly better would cost thousands. As works looking a little shakey it wasnt really money I wanted to spend. So I decided to spend a couple of hundred quid instead in the hope that I get close to hearing similar to that if id spent thousands.

I have everything I need now, im just waiting for all audible changes to stop.
I had every intention of taking pics, if just a before and after one. But to be honest, I feel id be wasting my time. We even have people who run this forum openly ridiculing forum members who are asking genuine questions related to the mag. Its not really the kind of site I feel I want to be attached to anymore if im honest. Dont get me wrong, im not one of these 'forum attention seekers' that tells everyone hes leaving then appears a month later or whatever. Its just a forum in cyberspace. No different to the thousands of others aside from its content. I really dont know whats happened to the place. Its a real shame I think. Im sure there are many genuinely nice people who post on this forum. But hey........at the end of the day.........its just a forum. No more, no less.

So sorry to those that are genuinely interested in the mod. Itll be a while off yet. I'm in no rush (Although I am one of those people that can do things in the spur of the moment so you never know :p).

I wouldnt be at all suprised if by the time ive completed my mod that I find I cant even post on this thread anymore.

THATS where we're at right now............

I'd suggest in turn that in an open internet forum, it's fair enough to pass a comment such as I did above. I don't need to "prove" anyone right or wrong; I did that for myself and am comfortable with the outcome and conclusions I came to. Subsequently, there's no profit for me. Apart from unnecessary spend on niche products that is.

Everyones entitled to thier opinions spot. I do ask however that we leave all this boring debate for another thread please, im starting to get a little hacked off with all my posts being 'stopped' in some way or other.

Fine by me Rik, but you made the comment and as it's a public forum...and one that you've used to similarly benefit posts of your own previously it's probably also worth highlighting. I'll leave it at that. Hope the project goes well.

Haven't been on the Forum for ages, modded my RS8's with great success a while back now. Nice to see others doing the same.

Take your time, work neatly alienRik and then just sit back and enjoy!

Nowadays I have a great system that just gives so much pleasure, be it on music, TV or Blue Ray. Ahhh

Hope people dont mind me tapping on the door of this thread but I had a couple of things I wanted to say about the mod to these speakers that involves changing over the two main caps of the crossover. This is purely to stop anyone in there tracks who may have picked up on what make and what value of cap to use in the crossover.

There was another thread regarding the same cap mod on MA silver S8's using clarity cap SA value 6.8uf and 3.9uf as being mentioned as the closest match to use. First problem I want to mention is clarity cap SA's as far as I can tell only come in 630v and are way to big to fit comfortably onto the crossover board and then inside the cabinet. Secondly the caps used on the silver S8 board are 4.7uf and 4.0uf.

I'm not complaining just an observation made when attempting this mod myself. I do however have an alternative cap that will defintely fit. Same brand - clarity caps, but the ESA variant which now comes in 250v form so is much more like the size of the originals. Available in 4.7uf and 4.0uf so pretty much bang on.

Anyone who like me has been searching for details on this mod specifically with s8's and for any other model for that matter, please open up your speaker and confirm which caps you require and bare in mind the dimensions of each item. Unless you are planning to completely redo the crossover board.

cheers
David
