My System:

IMac 27-inch, Late 2012 (new slim version)

Bowers & Wilkins MM1 desktop speakers

Headphones: Grado GS 1000 & Bose Noise cancelling phones I’m very interested in the Meridian Explorer USB DAC & headphone amp.

My query is, will it be suitable for the above-mentioned system, in particular the (very expensive) Grado GS 1000’s?

I do occasionally use the headphone socket on the Bowers & Wilkins MM1 desktop speakers; it has a built in DAC too, but find it doesn’t measure up to the GRADO’s so the Meridian explorer MUST outperform that

I would appreciate your honesty and if you don’t think the Explorer will be a significant upgrade, what other device would you suggest?

Kind regards

Jeremy

I love meridian as you can see from my sig -for those headphones proper amplification is most likely needed to get the best from them. Not sure the Meridian Dac is aimed at high end cans like the 1000s but I would bet its a lot better than using your desktop speakers as you are

i would recommend a separate dac / amp combo - amplification from Graham Slee such as his Ultra Linear Diamond or SRG will drive them properly and match really well. Grado are using Graham's Ultra Diamond at the Bristol show to demo their cans. Going to listen today - looking forward to it.

He has a dac / headphone combo that has just come out and he has a new full dac coming out soon worth looking at his site - you can home demo as well
