Recently my CD player has started to produce a quieter and fractured sound from the left channel, right is unaffected. This happens when using speakers or headphones (in cd player itself or amp). I don't listen to CDs very often but I've a large collection I'm not wiling to abandon yet so my question is, on as low a budget as possible, repair or replace? Is a new budget player going to sound like a massive step down? Is a player I picked up for peanuts worth spending money to save?

replace, it's going to be 40 quids for someone to have a look then £80 per hour to work on it.

Your 6000 OSE can be pick up for just over £100 on 2nd hand market so even if the fault is a simply one and easy fix, I don't think it is worth it.

The older Marantz could be a good buy too, the classic 63 KI or 67 OSE still sound rather good
