I may not like the British hifi lean & 4ward sound.... Everytime i upgrade its seems the problem gets worst!!.... Any suggessions 4 a system that will give real body 2 d sound, or do i need 2 go valve amps... any sugessions welcome...

What kit do you have?

My mains cables have increased the separation in instruments and voices, rather than made it more thin sounding.

Yep be interested to know what kit you have. My Clearer Audio mains cable has really boosted the sound of my Apollo cd player. In my opinion your problem may lie with your system not the cables. The right amplifier can help with warming up your sound no doubt.

The Cambridge Audio kit can be very bright almost brash, I'd say that this is the cause of your problem. Maybe a change of amp is in order here.

Hi, understand exactly what you mean. The amp is the problem, the reason music often lacks body and sounds thin and brittle often is due to current demand and the amount of reservour capacitance plus the quality of the Diode bridge in the amp/amps.
For example adding a PSX unit onto a Cyrus Amp gives a much fuller and effortless sound.

The cheapest way forward IMO is to try and get hold of a 500va BT mains conditioning unit as these have mains capacitors built into them that smooth the supply but will also help with timing issues on the signal path in the amp. The music will firm up on bigger loads.

The mods you have done so far is just highlighting the weaknesses in your system.

Try auditioning different speakers. Don't bother with expensive mains leads and stuff, it's moonshine and relies on the gullibility of audiophiles.

I can see this will cause a debate, even though your named after one of my favorite programes, your wrong (unless you can proove otherwise). Only recently i've updated my Merlin Chopin interconnect to the Acoustic zen silver reference 2 (havn't updated bio) and cant tell you how much this inter has improved the detail and transparency, it makes the Chopin (excellent in its own write) sound shaby. Muffled, forward in the mid comes to mind.
At the moment i have Chord Carnival Silver Plus speaker cable (£6 per meter) but in 4 weeks time will be moving and upgrading to Kimber Monocle x (£300 per meter). I have the monocle but unable to link it yet.

I will post my findings here but i'm sure there will be a significant improvement.

I will also rebuild the system on 'Your System'

Not mains leads, so not relevant.

Er just try some and then comment. I think you'll find you change your tune. Alternatively don't try any and just carry on giving people incorrect advice. Not very helpful.

You could start by reading this month's The Big Question in the mag. Or by looking at the reviews in any of the magazines.

I know my advice is correct, thanks. As a professional I know that speakers have the most effect on sound and therefore "warmth".

If you or anyone else can explain how a wire carrying AC power and not carrying the signal can alter the signal I would be most interested. I won't be buying any to try because I'm not a fool.

I don't disagree that changing speakers has more of an effect, but changing cables refines that sound. If you haven't tried it then you wouldn't know would you. Therefore your posts are worth nothing. Invalid. Incorrect. Wrong. Unhelpful. Pointless.

It really annoys me when posters are given unhelpful advice based on no foundation, and clearly wrong. I'm not suggesting for a moment that some of the advice I've dished out hasn't been correct, I'm sure it has but at least it was with the right intent. This person who is calling us all fools clearly has no idea. Who's the fool again?
