Sorry if you feel I'm insulting you - that's really not my intention. My intention is to show other people who read your posts that you claim to know changing power leads / interconnects etc. will make no difference to sound output when you have openly admitted that you have never actually listened to the difference (here if you need reminding).

It just seems to me, I would actually want to put my theory to the test before making such bold claims!

It's only about as bold as stating the moon isn't made of cheese.

Do you use fancy interconnects or speaker cable? Or is it a case of 5m of the cheapest cable you have sir?

I'd just like to clarify that my statement "Though to be fair, playing 78s in mono, he probably has a point that mains cables and interconnects won't make a difference." contained no irony or sarcasm, I actually meant that, with no offence intended.
No worries, no offence taken John. Believe it or not I also have a CD player. Woo hoo!
Just imagine how good it would sound if you didn't have it going through that cr-p interconnect it came with!

I don't have an interference problem, if I did I would hear it.
Are you sure you would hear it? Mightn't it not affect things more subtly than that?

I'll take the risk.

No really, when how would you know about it? I mean if it were just some level of distortion you might not notice until it was removed might you. So how do you know you haven't got an interference problem, have you measured it?

Don't really understand if you're being cryptic or smug here. Regardless, you fail to answer the question. Please do.
The tests that have been done on this subject - two I have found - are well meaning but fundamentally flawed. Really fundamentally unfortunately. I would really really like to see a proper controlled test now, but it's a complicated thing to do. Needs signal generators and oscilloscopes and all sorts to do it properly. Shouldn't be beyond the wit of man but I don't have the facilities myself. Which is a shame. As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out.

I'm using 6mm. stranded copper stuff from Ebay on the speakers and a Cambridge phono lead on the CD.

I would like the efficacy of mains conditioners to be tested and compared using a high powered RF source to simulate a worst case interference scenario but I tend not to worry about things I'm not suffering from. Life's too short.

Agreed, but you still haven't told us how you know you're not suffering from it? I accept (trivially) that "what you don't know can't hurt you" applies in this case (even if quite often in life what you don't know can actually hurt you quite a lot). But I am interested to know how you know. I didn't know that my old stereo sounded rubbish until some cruel swine demonstrated something (much) better. You have asserted in the past that you would be able to hear it if you turned the volume up between tracks but I'm not actually convinced that you would. (I'm not convinced you wouldn't either however as real world amplifiers are more complicated than the simple little things we tend to learn about at school.) Your comments/thoughts on this welcome.

edit - mid-track replaced by between tracks.

For goodness sake, will this Oldphrt/McAlpine quit his one man crusade already??!! He obviously does not have a life and thrives on provoking people into responding to him. Frankly, it would be a lot more productive if we treat him as if he doesn't even exist.

Guess you don't know then.
I'd have expected somebody with such great technical awareness to at least comment on whether or not you'd hear the noise for a class A or B amplifier.

No sorry, my fault - got bored with his insults and canned him. Again.

He'll no doubt be back under another new name yet again - he just can't resist us...
