After reading you reviews I'm thinking of upgrading my mains cable to the Clearer Audio Copper-line but as it is fairly expensive I was wondering which appliance it would be best used on intially until I can afford to buy further ones. The choices as I see it are: TV, AV Amp, Sky Box or PS3. Please can you advise in what order I should upgrade. I was also looking at the Tacima CS929 mains block. Would I notice a difference if I say used the Clearer Audio mains cable on say the AV Amp and then plugged in everything else into the Tacima using the supplied mains cables?

Does any company produce extension blocks that have this same technology built in, so all appliances benefit?

Buy a bog standard multisocket and go and have a nice meal out instead.

Almost three hours??? You're slowing up in your old(phrt) age...

I'd suggest you start here:

http://whathifi.com/forums/t/6485.aspx

where some of the pros and cons are discussed (amongst other, more off-thread topics).

I myself have found benefit in using the Tacima, so I would start with that, then ask a dealer nicely to lend you some mains cables to see if you personally hear any benefit. Opinions vary, as you will find out.

I think a sensible way to proceed would be to try the Tacima first, and see what benefits you think it brings to your system. If you feel the improvements are minimal, or you can't hear them, then at least you've only spent £30 to find out, and you still have a well-made mains block with built-in surge-protection.

If you feel you can hear improvements, then the amplifier would be the most obvious next candidate for an upgrade of mains cable.

I recently bought 2 Clearer Audio copper line mains cables and after 4 days running in the sound from amp / cd now has more clarity and detail & the soundstage is both wider and deeper.

Cheaper cables are available but have never tried them. Most give you 60 days money back trial period so you have nothing to lose.

Try Amazon for the Tacima CS929.

Whether you think it is money well spent is down to personal preference.

It's my opinion that a shielded cable does exactly that, stops electrical interference. And of course a pure regulated 240v from an expensive conditioner can only help too. I have a Tacima and various Russ Andrews and Merlin cables and I think they help and I wouldn't swap them back for the kettle leads.

I have the Tacima conditioner - it cost me £25. I would have had to pay £10 for a four way power extension and as AE says, you at least get surge protection. I also use Merlin cables (Tarantula mark 4). I am happy with them. I didn't do a lot of testing to see if I could tell the difference. However, I thought that if I was spending a lot of money on equipment, adding a little more on power cables is not going to end my world.

None of the conditioners have any regulation and mains leads don't affect the sound of a system.

Bummer eh?

Hello Okster, If you are planning on purchasing one cable then ultimately you have to decide where your priorities. If you would like better picture quality then start with your TV since this will show the benefits no matter which source (Sky HD or PS3) you use. If however you would like better sound quality then start with your AV amplifier. We have many customers in your position and the best thing is to try the Copper-line on all of your components; that way you can evaluate the improvements gained on each individual component and see what you prefer. As has already been pointed out, we offer a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Darren

Hi Darren

Could you explain exactly how, in technical terms, your mains leads can improve the quality of a system?

I can! I can! Me! Me!

Mains leads act as radio aerials. Expensive ones are designed not to feed Radio Frequency Interference (inter alia) into your amplifier which, well, amplifies it.

Any opinion on anything else is pure speculation on my part and can be ignored 🙂

What was wrong with the original leads? Not pretty enough?

Probably the fact that he says
to great effect
gives a clear indication why he bought them.

Fancied a cup of tea so used the leads in series on my kettle. Perfect.
