Mac to tv cable?

I know what cable to buy ,my question is when connected do u get the exact image on your tv as you do on the imac27? Or is it cropped ,or 4.3 do you get the full 16.9 or even worse is it like the crappy mirror me function on the ipad

Assuming this is a Macbook of some sort, it will see it as a second display and therefore will display in the native resolution of your TV. You can choose to mirror whatever is on your Macbook screen, in which case it may not fill the screen - it will depend on what resolution your TV is.

NB - worth noting that second display options are due to be much improved in OS X Mavericks which is due out soon.
