M.Short 909 sub woofer

Hi guys, i'm in need of some advice if you would be so kind. I've had the sub for 2 years (ms 909) and it has already been back to the manufacturer once for repair under warranty, in the process the sub exterior was damaged several times and no explanation was given on the repair and nobody would take responsibility for the damage. The sub has recently failed again, this time making a loud electrical humming noise when switched on. I have taken the sub to a hifi specialist in my area as I am reluctant to go through the same problems as the first time going down the manufacturer route. I have been contacted today and quoted £340 for the repair (complete new amp fitted), the sub was £500 new. I dont know whether to pay for the repair as the sub is good when it's working and part of a complete 900 set, or cut my losses and look for a new unit of equivalent performance.

Any help is greatly received.
