LS50 Subwoofer Dilemma

Hi all,

I currently have Kef LS50's (which are excellent) and I was looking for a subwoofer to go with them. Originally, I was going to order the REL T7 subwoofer, but I then seen an advert for BK Subs and had a look at the huge post on AVForums highly rating the Monolith as an excellent buy. I then placed an order immediately for a FF Standard Monolith, and I am now having second thoughts as I have now seen that the XXLS400 is more suited to music, due to being a sealed unit :wall: . Should I stick with the monolith, go for the XXLS400 or cancel the order completely and order the REL? :?

Thank you

I've had the XXLS400 DF sub now for a few weeks.

When I sought advice from BK, they said if you are 80% music / 20 % movies go for the XXLS400, or if it is mainly movies - go for the Monolith.

I was somewhere in between, but I was intrigued what mpact the XXLS400 would have with my standmount Mission 780's.

This is my first sub, so whilst I can't compare it to others, it's fab with movies. Listening to music however, especially some of my all time favourites, is like listening to a new arrangement, as the sub is adding the bass the Missions can't reproduce. The bass is not at all flabby, it's nice and controlled. I'm now pulling out CD's I haven't played for a while to see how they sound.

I've heard neither of those two models, but yes, a sealed subwoofer will produce better sound quality than a ported subwoofer, unless you want nightclub type bass.
