LP inner sleeves

I do not buy too many brand new LP's these days, mainly because of the cost. 2nd hand from carboots, fairs, charity shops etc. is where I normally pick up any additions to my LP collection.

However, considering the cost of new vinyl it really infuriates me when an LP you've shelled out over £20 for comes with the LP's in ordinary cardboard inner sleeves, rather than providing a nice anti-static, anti-abrasive sleeve.

Steven Wilson's latest Grace For Drowning is a good example.

I know there are lots of suppliers of these sleeves out there, just look on Ebay.

I've just ordered a pack of 100 white paper polylined sleeves from them for £17.50 plus VAT = £21 Delivered.

I thought this was a pretty good price and ordered them late Monday night and they were delivered this morning by courier.

They look pretty decent quality, so all in all a good deal I feel. I'm sure someone will tell me of a cheaper alternative, but I just thought that I'd pass on their name and testify for their quality and service in case anyone else is looking to buy some sleeves without spending an arm and a leg.

Have to agree with you there DIB, it's ridiculous new LPs not coming in an anti-static sleeve, it probably saves them a farthing per album. All the 180g Thin Lzzy I bought re-issues came in paper or cardboard covers, crazy really.

I bought mine from a company in Burton upon Trent.

I've been meaning to get some inner sleeves from Covers for sometime now , but there has always been another record that has taken my fancy and I get that instead . I must be more disciplined and get some on order ,

I'm in the process of ripping all my vinyl onto a PC ... thankfully I had the foresight many years ago to purchase those inner sleeves ... when WH Smith used to sell them at 10p each ... they still have the price stickers on! ;-)

Taking into account inflation, £17.50 for 100 is not bad value, but I too am amazed that they are not supplied with the LP. It's the same with some CDs today - some can come in a cardboard sleeve rather than a jewel case and they can get scratched in the same way, although the result is not as catastrophic. And invariably they are tricky to extract.

When I had my records professionally cleaned, in 2002, the owner used covers33, as Keith monks used them himself, pic sleeves and lyric sleeves, he used nagoaka.

As I'm now cleaning 380 LP's myself, I've bought the same !!

I use the Nagaoka 102 inner sleeves. Its very nice but really slippery, record tend to roll out of the cover if I'm not careful.. If I try inserting it so inner sleeve opening is NOT the same as the cover, it gets all creased up. annoying after a while

They work best for me if I put them in the cardboard inner sleeve that comes with most records. They do tend to crease up, but the material is very good.

I have inherited hundreds of classical LPs from the 1960s to 1980s. Most of them still in the original anti-static inner sleeves. They have survived extremely well and still sound excellent, especially records made by Decca, Philips, Deutsche Grammophon and Columbia. Not a 180 disc in sight back then. 🙂 I suppose it really helped that I advised my parents to store their records upright and not touch the records with their fingers.

I use polylined paper sleeves of the type sold by Covers33 (although there are cheaper sources on eBay). Bought in bulk these can be as little as 20p per sleeve. I can't see any reason why these wouldn't do the job as well as Nagaoka sleeves, as they're made from the same material. Certainly they seem to keep my cleaned records free from both static and dust. Definitely a worthwhile investment - no more paper scuffs for me either.

I always use the covers33, and only resort to nagoaka when it is a picture, or lyric sleeve, which then keeps the album original and certainly helps with them not creasing.

I would not use nagoaka on their own, only as a slip into original sleeves, I prefer the paper/poly lined ones for all my LP's, as they are far easier to use and most of mine are at least 12 years old, and show no signs of deterioration. I've just bought some more as I'm cleaning 380 Lp's and they will all have new liners.

I use Covers33 for general use but Nagaoka if I want to line a cardboard picture inner.

I bought Nagaoka-type CD inners a few years ago too for card CD sleeves, but can't locate fresh supplies. Any ideas? Ta.

I recently bought some Mobile Fidelity anti static plastic sleeves and Japanese plastic sealed outer ones. Records these days are expensive so I think it's worth it to protect your investment. I dislike the paper sleeves as they always seem to rip or the seams come apart. Also, I wonder if the paper can scratch or scuff records? They seem a bit too rough so I am phasing them out in my collection.

i brought some nagaoka 102 clones from amazon, think they were 12.99 for 50. so far they've been great, anything new to the collection gets spin cleaned then re-sleeved. went the whole hog and got outer sleeves for everything too.
