Hi All

I was hoping for a little advice, I am looking at purchasing a universal remote control and am leaning towrds the Logitech Harmony 525 or Philips SRU8008 Prestigo. Which do you think would be best both are around the same price £45

I will want it to run Toshiba LCD, Denon 1909 AVR, Panasonic HDD Recorder, normal Sky box and possibly PS3 (with use of IR dongle)

I am not too bothered about setting activities just want a one for all to operate the equipment for changing channel, volume and setting the recorder

Thanks for any help

I used to use a Pronto, albeit a different model with a different method of programming but since moving to the Harmony range, I haven't looked back. I started with a 525 and now the One, which in my opinion is the best value remote out there. The 525 buttons are a little clicky for my liking but the layout is excellent. Logitech offer excellent customer support, should you run into any setup issues and there are various forums outwith the one on the Logitech site that will offer assistance and setup tips. I believe the Pronto comes pre-programmed with various codes on board but I haven't heard much user opinion, basically as Logitech have the market of sub £100 universal remotes pretty much sewn up.

More tech to confuse the wife LOL. Is the pronto the same as the philips model then?

also does anybody know if there is a difference between the 525 and 525 advance? on some writups it says the remote will do 10 components some 12 and some 15!

Cheers

HI I have the LH 525 for about a year now. Found it quick time consuming to set up (and I consider myself quite 'techy') plus it eats batterys.

Found the activites not worth the effort of setting up because if one thing out of sync (usually down to 'other' user's) then the steps didnt always work e.g. TV comes on but DVD switched off etc.

It's very easy to use once set up and I dont miss the activites options. I also find the volume/channel select buttons a little 'dull', a little too well fitted to the body of the unit which means it's sometimes hard to get them to responsed. I play guitar which means the ends of my fingers are pretty shoot so this might just be me!

regards

The activies are the primary method of operating your equipment and should be fixable if they're not working. Device mode is actually only designed to be used by Logitech themselves, although I had to ask them to configure one of my devices to be usable in device mode (ir lights) and they did after a quick phonecall/email (via the software).

The help button should cure any issues you have with equipment being out of sync but in the end, you can tweak delays and times to fix. I would persevere and consider joining a specialised forum as someone should be able to help.

I am wondering if the 525 would be lost on me, as I will mainly use it to watch sky. turning up volume and going through channels mainly through the favourites button.

Also would this allow me to set the HDD to record programmes etc?

Thanks for the comments so far
