Hey

I am sending back my 46C650 after the backlight is almost causing the blacks to become grey, I have tried everything to no evail.

I seen the LG which can be had for less than 1000.00 with a 5 year, but I cant see it.

I know what hi-fi reviewed this, and some on other forums are saying the reflection is really bad, worse than plasma, but others dont seems to mention it at all.

Any thoughts?

I would ammend my current thread title, but cant seem to see how to do that anymore.

Thanks again

Anyone have this TV? or what hi-fi reviewers?

They dont have it for show in RS, will need to buy on faith, and reviews.

Also looking at the new samsung ue46d6530 which looks nice as well,

Seen that in john lewis, but not sure about how much they improved the backlight bleed on this, as people with the old 7000 and 8000 complained of the major bleed on some

Oh just seen the new samsung plasmas as well, they look sweet.

I think I will have to compremise as wont get a perfect TV, so not to have screen bleed, which is annoying.

Looks like plasma or full led.

Hi Canada16.

I auditioned an LG 47LE8900 recently, spending a good hour with the TV and playing with various settings. Screen reflection and motion issues were the two problems I spotted and the reasons I didn't opt for this TV.

That said, I was viewing in store under bright lighting, which doubtless exacerbated the screen reflection issue. The 8900 I saw was also sat next to an LG plasma, perhaps highlighting the 8900's deficiencies with motion. It wasn't awful, but no matter how I set up motion processing, including turning all processing off, I couldn't get a result I was happy with.

These are not major flaws, but just enough to put me off, so I'd suggest an audition to help you decide. There are many things the TV does exceptionally well: colour balance, impressive contrast and black levels. Furthermore, you can buy one for less than half the original retail price now.

I'd still say the 8900 represents a fantastic deal at the moment, so it's definitely worth adding to your shortlist...

EDIT: just read that you can't audition this TV. If you buy on faith, you should clarify that the TV can be returned if you're not happy. By law, you should always be able to do this under distance selling regulations, but it's better not to have a fight on your hands!

Just seen a 50" g20 for 600.00, also + 5% cash back

I think I will buy this, seems to get great reviews in most places

If you do go for it, i personally would advice to stick away from the firmware updates - it could be a cracking deal. Avatar looked fantastic on this in my local home cinema shop. The new ones are in the shops now too i believe.

Fair enough. Sounds like a great deal. Just be aware of floating blacks, mild motion judder and panel noise before taking the plunge. In my opinion, the first two problems would barely register as an annoyance at that price, but buzzing/whining/whistling has been widely reported by owners and is my biggest gripe with the V20 I own.

If you get one that isn't noisy to an intrusive extent, you'll be extremely happy at that price. I should also add that I've kept my V20, despite the somewhat uncomfortable whine, because I couldn't find an alternative (which is why I auditioned the LG 8900 in the first place).

Whats wrong with the firmware gel ?

You might want to read up on these - especially the bit where Panasonic did a reply, too certain issues. First one i had was great (no firmware) - but then i decided to go smaller - had the firmware - (bad), got my first one back (had firmware on by then - bad).

No getting friday and returning my C650 to costco, feel a bit bad as its 3 days before the 90day cut off, but the bleed is really bothering me at night.

Quidco tracked so getting the G20 50" for 575.00.

People on another forum complain of rising blacks and buzzing ect.. But it only seems to be certain people, and its the same group, only 2 handfulls of the same people that are not happy, and expecting kuro quality it seems.

Yes they bought for 1200 when it first came out, so for me to get for 575.00 is outstanding, and I can look over a small hum or buzz, as my old plasma did the same, but you could only really hear it if you turned the sound off, and really looked out for it.

But to get a set that has THX and all the features, I am over the moon already.

I bought my 46C650 for 800.00 with a 5 year, so will get a refund of 200.00 as well, Only a 1 year with currys, but my Natwest card will give me another year warranty if I call up with the serial number, as I have a gold account.

So 575.00 for 2 years warranty on a 50" G20, I could not refuse.

But still feel bad about returning a few days before the 90day no quibble refund cuts off.

Just returned my TV at costco after 87 days, no argument, just said ok. They had the 50" G20 there No screen reflection, and if there was some dark scenes it was very subtle reflection. Picture on normal sd TV and the bad feed still looked pretty good, and that was not even set properly, I could not hear 1 humm or buzz, nor 50hz thing, and they were racing cars and running around, also could not see any of this posterisation people talk about, nor floating blacks, and stood there for at least 15 min having a play with it, Looks quite nice as well, thought it would look uglier. Received call from currys, and it will be here between 08:00 and 12:00 tomoz, cant wait, I am staring at my wall right now as no TV.

Difference between my Tv and the G20 was this as they had them side by side:

LCD looked very bright an artificial, and the G20 looks more natural and deep blacks.

I cant wait, not sure it will even fit in my alcove, but rule of thumb is..... Buy first measure later...
