A great review! I plucked for the Sony though!

The Bravia 3 TV have 3 year guarantee, and you get it for £550 to £600

Cheaper than the Philips.

The issue I have with the Philips is the none adjustable backight!!! Given everything been equal, I need to adjust it to minimum to save power for one thing. Its a personal thing like brightness setting but not been able to adjust backlight would stop me buying this.

The backlight ideally adjust in auto mode or manual mode depending on ambient light....if its non adjustable then is it it on auto 'ECO mode' setting?

The Sony's a great product, providing you get one with proper backlighting. The test verdict suggests "if you can put enough distance [in terms of price] between the Sony and the Philips, you're entitled to swap their positions in the pecking order" and that three-year guarantee doesn't do any harm either.

The Philips' lack of backlight adjustment is curious, certainly, but the backlighting is at least reliably even. There's an eco-mode buried deep in the Philips' set-up menus, so you can save power without impacting on picture quality too dramatically.

I have seen the best mail order Philips retail for £544 at mail order with a free 5 year warranty, the Sony v5500 at £476.

A very close call.Potential buyers should audition both.

I use my Bravia for displaying 10mb images feed to it on a free Server programme without the need for a DNLAS Viao device.

I am lucky my V5500 didn't have the uneven backlight issues......I got it from Curries retail at £499. I would be tearing my hair out as those stocks have all gone in their one day Croydon opening special.
