I have this question regarding the setup of the 3005 system. I'm gonna have the 4 satellites on the floorstands and I'm thinking of using the qed silver anniversary cable with banana plugs. Would the cable fit through the stand with the banana plugs or should the plugs be fitted on the cable just before connecting to the speaker? I'm thinking of ordering the cables online precut so i want to know if to order with the banana plugs on or not.

Also is the Yamaha RX-V1800 a good match to the KEF system?

I've got these speakers. The stands have a very narrow gap for speaker cable to be fed through. I have QED Silver anniversary XT on the fronts but they are not on stands. The rears are on the stands and I've got QED micro into them. I doubt that the silver anniversary cable would fit through the stand never mind with banana plugs attached. If the cable is able to be drawn through then the plugs would have to defo be installed after. I'm sure that there have been a couple of threads about this previously on the forum so it would be worth a quick search.

I don't know about the amp as I've got a Denon but, David from Frank Harvey has mentioned on here a few times that the Kefs and Yamaha amps sound great together and that his store have sold plenty of that combo

Forget the bananas. I ordered prepared cables with bananas and ending up throwing them away. A fine waste of money. You don't need the bananas a) because they wont fit down the inside of the stands, and b) the speakers have a fancy screw connection which is not banana friendly...

Ok then but what about speaker cable to use to go through the stands if the qed silver anniversary xt is not suitable? And can i use banana plugs just on the receiver end? Can someone who uses them with the stands please tell me what cable they are using?

I use QED SA with my KEF 3005SE with stands.

Most of the above information is incorrect.

The speaker cable WILL FIT (mine does). It is a tight fit, so the bananas cannot go through on the speaker end.

I too thought that the KEF eggs wern't able to accept bananas until a recent thread showed where I was going wrong.

The little silver and black cone on the back of the screw connection has a black removable insert. remove this and the eggs accept banana plugs.

Fine cable, TBH my speaker connections are tinned, but as long as you fit the bananas after you have fed the wire through the stand there is no reason why they cannot be used.

Enjoy :)

Hi ppp. I've got 3005SE's and a Yammy combo with Silver Anniversary XT. I've got the amp end terminated with QED screwlocs ( just to make it easier to disconnect and reconnect if needed), and then bare wire to the Kef's. I find this combo the easiest to work with. :)

True Blue are you using the Silver Anniversary XT or the older version? Is one thicker than the other?

I am using the original SA not the XT.

Sorry, from your original post I did not think you were talking of the XT

The cable dia of SA is 2.5mm and that of XT is 3.9mm

Another suggestion would be Chord Rumour install

So i guess the SA XT is out of the question then. What about the Silver Micro then? It would easily fit right? And it's good quality too from what i understand?

This is Silver Micro with some Van Den Hul Screw Locs, the quality is great. QED SA XT will only just fit with a bit of pulling, Ive stuck with the Micro for the rears and XT for the fronts as they are not on stands, they came with QED Airlocs at the amp end.
