Just connected up the new STR-DA3400es.......

..........and it has the Sky HD issue!!! No surround sound through optical. Claire, do you know if there is a firmware that Sony can offer? Also, did your testers find out whether you could assign component to the optical cable? I really don't mind doing that if the firmware thing means sending it back and waiting.

Ignore me - either I found out a way around it or it's just not as clear as Sony normally does things.

So far, cracking sound. Still waiting on BD player to come though.

When you go to the assign inputs section. HDMIs 1-4 don't let you assign. However you can assign another way. There are also SAT, DVD, BD etc., that you can set up. I assigned HDMI 2 and Optical Digital Video 1 to the SAT icon. Now I just click SAT on the remote and I get Sky HD with surround sound! It sounds excellent - a very fast accurate sound. I've only had a quick play with a dvd and some recorded HD programmes. The GUI is brilliant.
