Jazzfunk / Soul / Disco fans, name your best. Don't worry about your selections being too commercial or too heavy.

12", Instrumental, whole albums, LP tracks, if you love them, name them please.

None of us have heard everything (and never will of course) but let's find some of what we've missed.

Haircut 100 would be a decent place to start with.

Thanks Alantigger and Vladimir - even at past 1.30 in the morning, you've come up with gooduns to start us off.

That album you linked to Alantigger, I borrowed from the library. Perhaps I should've kept it and paid the fine - see the 'new' price on your link? 'From' £46.22!

And Vlad, Jamiroquai - great (but then I would say that, I'm biased)

I'm probably one of the biggest soul/funk fans on here. Nearly half of my collection is made up of countless Funk, Soul, Disco....

Really depends what your preference is. A few examples as follows:

T-Connection 'On Fire'. Absolute great track. have heard the album but not for years, but the 12" single is superb.

Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove. Superb album.

Level 42's self titled first album. Immensely soulful.

Dan Hartman - Instant Replay. A songwriter and producer who jumped on the disco/funk bandwagon. Very good.

The Real Thing. Very good.

As Vlad suggested Gil Scott-Heron. Probably the first, as we know it, Rapper with his spoken word songs. Good but you need to be in the mood.

Recently I purchased an album 'This Time Around' Otis Clay. A real throwback to the 70 (Al Green, Marvin Gaye...). Superb.

Two suggestions:

1/ Tower of Power: Diggin' on James Brown. Always makes me cranck up the volume (and grin).

2/ Maceo Parker's version of Stevie Wonder's I Wish (from the Soul Classics album, with the incredible Christian McBride on bass and the maybe even more incredible Cora Coleman-Dunham on drums -- that drum solo *wacko*)

Try Ronnie Laws, Every Generation is my favourite .

Basshound, of all his tracks, Every Generation is my favourite as well.

I bet you've played it many times like me and if you don't start off at high volume, it needs to be up from 2 minutes in to catch that sax break and beyond - one of those songs that can truly bring tears to your eyes. Great for your hi-fi and you.

Medeski, Martin and Wood are frequently described as jazz/funk fusion although they can get rather more jazz than funk at times, it's a funkyish jazz rather than a jazzy funk imo.
