Forum friends,

Has anyone got any experience with the Klipsch R-40M in stereo use? I am considering getting a set to put on the end of my Primalunas whilst the floorstanders have been stored to avoid the roaming of a toddler.

I understand the subjectivity of speakers but note: 1) it is a temporary solution; 2) I'm not intending on spending more than £250; and 3) I'm not going to trial at home as the placement will be sub-optimal (on a side-board).

I am posting "v. Dali Spektor 2" as the other option is to store the Primalunas and get out the Naim Uniti Lite with the Dali's at the end. I have the Oberon 5s and they sound good enough at the end of the Naim.

All thoughts welcome; and acknowledging (again) the subjective nature of my question.

I have owned the Spektor 2s and a similar Klipsch model (R-51M I think), and I would choose the Spektors every time - more balanced sound, better build...

If you like your Oberon 5s, the Oberon 1s can be had for £299 at present, and they are a very worthy step up from the Spektors in refinement, resolution and dynamics.

I have the Klipsch R-50M, these are clean sounding speakers. The Klipsch replaced the Dali Zensor 1s and I noticed improvement in detail and more pronounced low frequencies.

My more costly Dali Oberon 3s in the bedroom are better than Klipsch in every department, has more natural sound.
I suspect the Dali Spektor 2s will be better than Klipsch R-40Ms.
I hope this helps.

As an update - loving the Dali Oberon 1s on the end of the PrimaLunas. SWMBO commented that she thought it sounded far better than when paired with the Oberon 5s, but listening is a little more "near field" than previously, so that might explain it.

In due course, I think I'll try the 1s stand mounted (as currently "compromised" per the above picture) and see what effect, if any, that has. I have some STAV24s at home that were purchased second hand and never used for that purpose.

Then, in a few years time, I expect I'll look at some more expensive stand mounts, but for now, just enjoying the music ... Radio Paradise, hotmix Country Hits, hotmix Piano Bar and a little KCRW24.
