Hi, I've just read through this thread as i-Tunes doesn't sound as good as I thought it would when I listen to music through my AE. I have a Dell desktop PC. When you mention view and equaliser are these in Windows control panel or within i-Tunes?

if your using wifi to connect to the ae as i assume you must then your bypassing the audio controls in windows

check that you have the volume in itunes turned up to the maximum and other than that theres not much to do

are you playing compressed or lossless files because that makes a huge difference

Thanks for the reply. I have the volume in i-tunes at max but the volume in windows fairly low. I use a variety of file compression rates. Some 192mp3, 256 AAC, 320AAC and Apple lossless. They all seem to have the same problem. The vocals and higher frequencies sound 'rough'. The best way to describe it would be as if 'when taping a lp onto a cassette and the recording level was set too high and saturated the tape'. I have tried both wireless and wired. I have not tried using a optical cable into my amp though. The songs sound great through headphones on my Touch and through my Denon dock.

basically if your not using optical but connecting to the analogue inputs on your amp then the ae is acting as the dac

if you use an optical cable then it will be the dac in the amp being used so that might be part of the reason for the difference in sound so try an optical cable a cheapy should be fine

Thanks will do. It's used for the occaisional listen in the dining room. So it's not that big a deal. i never have the volume set anywhere near 'loud' so aren't worried about damaging the speakers.

It is the itunes equaliser, so on the itunes tool bar click view and the equaliser is near the bottom. Click on it and a small pop will appear and you can see the options from there.

To reduce distortion everything I have read suggests maxing the volume on itunes and Windows and controlling it from your amp.

Have tried the view EQ settings. Mine were set to manual with a preset curve. Have turn EQ off and will turn windows volume up to full when I am going to stream to AE. First impressions are a deffo improvement to sound. Thanks for the tips
