Certainly not - even the Blu-ray Disc Association admits DVD will remain the dominant format for a good few years yet.

What we are seeing, however, is the end of higher-end dedicated DVD players that have been good business for retailers such as AVLAND. Such specialist retailers will increasingly leave the budget DVD sector to the likes of the High Street multiples, Amazon and supermarkets.

With Blue Ray players now available for as little as £130 (http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/cl/4/DVD-Players?sort=3&a_4454=DVD/Blu-Ray) I wondering how long it will be before we start seeing Blue Ray players as cheap as DVD players. It did not take long before supermarkets released DVD players at £80 and less. If this happens to BD players, then they'll push the DVD players off the shelf. However people will still own DVD players for a few years as they are already in homes, so I agree that the disks will remain dominant for quite some time. The players however...I'm not so sure.

I remember it well...as an early adopter I'd spent £500 on my first Sony DVD player and in what felt like minutes, superior players were available for a fraction of the cost. This is why I'm going to wait a little longer for Blueray.
