I have just bought a new Digital Video Recorder\Bluray player and all recorded TV shows and Blurays play a screeching digital white noise instead of the soundtrack. Live TV is played correctly through the DAC.

The old DVR\DVD player was connected with the same coaxial cable and played everything correctly. The cable used the same input on the DAC.

New DVR\Bluray - Panasonic DMR-UBT1
Old DVR\DVD - Panasonic DMR-XW450
DAC - Musical Fidelity M6sCD

Any thoughts on this issue are gratefully received.

Thanks

Would be worth checking the sound setup menu Sir Ken.

(My (old) Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder gives a choice of Dolby Digital or LPCM sound for recording).

Look for any current difference between your live and record / playback sound settings.....

The player will have a choice for the output between PCM & Bitstream, try each one to see what works best with your DAC. (The names of these items may be as Gray says above, as it depends on what the manufacture chooses)

That's it! Fixed!

Thanks Gray and Bill. I changed the audio output on the DVR from Bitstream to PCM and there was the audio. I'm guessing that a multi channel digital audio signal can't go in to a stereo DAC
