Is there a loss in audio quality by directly connecting aux + phone to amp?

Original OP here, thanks for the info guys, going with the chromecast and going to use a Y cable for the moment, will invest in a DAC in a while (need one anyway). My phone is the Xperia Z3, should I disable any of its settings or bypass anything to get better quality?

Turn everything off in Equalizer and Settings. Keep it flat without any effects. This is just in case they affect the sound while using Chromecast app, though they shouldn't.

I keep hearing this...google time...has anyone tried optical from tv to hifi? I did..got five metres ..could have done with seven! Lol..listened to you tube..did someone mention it was compressed? Hehehe...well? If its compressed? Im a fan of the squeeze....lol

I don't think the cheap chrome cast audio will sound better then your phone but you'll find it all way more convenient to move around. I think a good y cable is mandatory too. If you want a good long term investment get something like a Bluesound Node 2 or Auralic aries mini.

Don't get me wrong the chromecast is the best deal, it's good, but because you seem to want better then ok I'm suggesting you go further.

Some person here said you tube compressed? Optical from tv to my dac says 48hz? Is that compressed? Cd being 44.1?

That's the sample rate, not the bit rate.

If I remember correctly You Tube audio is at best 192 Kbps AAC. The audio frequency range also cuts off at 15khz.

HD music vids do sound surprisingly good though. I was very impressed when I first connected my smart TV to a DAC and then to my system.

Vevo is the only streaming service I use for music.

Ah ok..i just assumed higher number hz better? Lol..yes i agree i think you tube from tv to dac to hifi is very good too...not compressed to my ears warm analogue type of sound...seemed closer to my vinyl..i listen thru now tv 'you tube' and then optical from tv to my pre amp..impressive to my old ears..my cd player is 16 bit does that mean a 24 bit sounds better? Very confused...its a age thng! Haha
