Indeed – given what I said above, and the fact that Apple was being rather evasive with us and only making very general remarks on the understanding they were off the record, I was very surprised indeed.

Not that I'm affected yet running an iPod classic through a digital dock, but I have no desire for an adaptor with built in DAC, although considering how widely supported Apple products are, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to sell me a new product (lightning to USB converter/dock or lightining to Optical converter/dock) to milk some more money out of me if I need to upgrade/replace my soon to be (?) obsolete digital dock.
