Corporate structures aside, the issue is one of consumer choice, competition and not being wholly reliant upon salesman's "speak". By all means listen to advice given in a shop but ultimately the consumer has to make up his/her own mind by listening to a hi fi setup (or indeed by tasting, otherwise everyone who walks into a Sainsbury's or Waitrose will come away with their own brand products as opposed to other branded products which might be better
).
