Corporate structures aside, the issue is one of consumer choice, competition and not being wholly reliant upon salesman's "speak". By all means listen to advice given in a shop but ultimately the consumer has to make up his/her own mind by listening to a hi fi setup (or indeed by tasting, otherwise everyone who walks into a Sainsbury's or Waitrose will come away with their own brand products as opposed to other branded products which might be better

Cambridge Audio CEO:

Great! Unfortunately I'm out of the country that week but good week commencing 20th April if that suits you? Any others coming along too?? Rather than trouble our friends at WHF simply send me a message via our support centre http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/sts/ with your details.

Yeah, I'd love to come for the meet & greet. It's a 5min walk from my house to your London office. I just signed up on the link you provided but don't see a place to send a message. Do I submit a query?

I thought the link was only for customers when I clicked on it. (Registration form to be filled out etc.)

Well, I am, so no harm. But I don't see a way to send a message either way...

Signup and then submit a query and your details will be passed through to me. Cheers.

At the end of the day Cambridge Audio make very high quality products and Richer Sounds are excellent at what they do. It may well be that, for various reasons, Richer sales staff push Cambridge Audio but at the end of the day they are there to make a living and there is absolutely nothing wrong with heavily promoting, or 'selling' (in the active sense), a quality product. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the customer to compare the products recommended by Richers to those promoted by other dealers and to use the information provided to make their own decisions based on their needs.

I'm the other way round. I already have a Cambridge Audio

740a and am thinking of getting either the Mezzo 2's or the

Monitor Audio Silver RX2. Help please.

I think that the average punter who may not be aware of all the interrelationships of this industry may feel a little hoodwinked to learn after purchase that there was a connection between CA & RS. Lets be clear here: just because there was a potential conflict of interest does not automatically mean that any advice offered was invalid. A big however is that such relationships should be out in the open so such a punter knows that any advice may favour one manufacturer over another.

HiFi in most respects is no different from most other industries that flourish by selling stuff for a profit. The more we buy, the greater the benefit down the supply chain (& to the purchaser who enjoys greater choice). Some relationships favour particular brands - that is how capitalism works. Everyone in the supply chain is understandably eager to maximise their slice. We are all players here - some more enthusiastically than others. What I don't expect to happen as a purchaser is to be lied to or have relevant facts withheld & neither be given a load of bull. The people or organisations I try to avoid the most are the ones who over-state their own impartiality such as “Independent Financial Advisors” who are paid by dependant organisations. It's a question of not just being impartial but being seen to be impartial to my mind. The long time lapse here is duly noted!
