Ive been on IQ Speakers website looking at the IPL KITS also - they look great also.
Those Hypex amps look good too. Think ill get one to drive my center speaker through the av pre outs
Does anyone know more about the drivers used - who makes them for them etc
If I had to go for one it would be the monster S5TL - can be all built for under 2grand - and is transmission line so the bass will be very strong - any thoughts. My small knowledge on kit speakers is that youll have to double or tripple the price to get same quality from mainstream. one review on the ipl website compares them to £8000 b&W Nautilis and even says they are better sounding.
for £2000 you can buy the Dali optician 8s which are very big speakers I got the 6s and I love them . I never listened to Colin's ipl speakers so can not comment on them but recommend demoing his speakers but saying a £2000 set of speakers is better then a £8000 set is a very big clam to make sorry Colin no disrespect to you
Do a google search and see what others are saying. Mainstream speaker makers have a large overhead to make up. Small companies like ipl and wilmslow audio can offer products that would cost more than double by the likes of kef, monitor audio etc
Someone in here a few months ago (cant remeber who) also commented about how cheap the drivers and tweeters were in a higher end monitor audio speaker.
I would go down to colin and demo his ipl speakers. Lets make a day out of it. Ill bring my hegel. You never know we may be amazed? I want to check the hypex mono amps also for my center speaker ill get soon.
As a reference a new Atc scm 100 passive is between £8000 - £10000 brand new. Can build a kit atc scm100 for £2300.
Only difference is not the sl drivers with slightly higher spl.
