Question Need subwoofer advice

Hi,

i recently bought the SVS SB1000 Pro to pair with the KEF LS50 Wireless II. The issue i got is that i don't know where i should place the sub and what settings would fit for my speakers. Im mainly using it for music and movies. The room is 26²m the distance to the speakers when sitting is around 3 m.

Would appreciate advice a lot 🙂

I can only imagine behind your sofa or a probably-custom one under the divan -would that be? Or, I'd shop for or custom-order a "subwoofer soundbar", maybe to match the speakers.

I have never used a sub in the first 4 decades of my advanced hi-fi life; but, I did want to note that you do have a very cool radiator! I might customize the soundbar to match or complement the radiator, AS IF... 🤔

You need to do the subwoofer crawl, place the subwoofer in your seating position then play some music with bass in it, crawl around the room until you find a position where the bass sounds smooth and clear, that will then be the ideal place to put the sub.
As a general rule of thumb, sealed subwoofers are usually the best for music with ported better for home cinema.
When the sub is in the correct position, adjust the volume and filter controls until you get a smooth transition between the speakers and the sub (You should not be able to hear the sub as a separate, entity, it should just blend in), this will be a trial-and-error procedure.
NOTE: If you place the sub behind you, flip the phase switch to 180deg.

Do the kef wireless have bass management? as in distance AKA delay?

If not then really the sub will need to stay on the same plain as the speakers. It will pretty much sound wonky any where else becasue if you cant delay it the sub will either be reaching you to late or early.

If It does follow Abacus advice above and set the delay/distance in the Kef settings

If you're going to do the 'subwoofer crawl' - please, PLEASE make sure that you do it with multiple tracks. It is not going to find the best position for the sub, but the 'least worse,' and doing it with only one track will only be having you find the least worst position for that track. At least by doing it with multiple tracks you can find what compromise you're willing to live with - because there will be compromises. But at the same time, don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of good.

I'd also just flip the phase switch back and forth regardless, and choose which one sounds louder. Getting into the weeds of variable phase on the SVS actually introduces MORE problems. This is why I don't like the app/EQ that SVS uses - it is very, very easy to make things worse.
