It has FINALLY arrived, yes people i have just had my 46hx903 installed and i can honestly say: WOW! what a picture, i have tried playing Call Of Duty Black Ops and dont think i will be doing that any more, its just too distracting, i have also watched Alice In Wonderland in 3D and that is certanly more convincing.

I have also just tried watching the news in 3D by pressing the 3D button on the TV remote. . . . yeh i dont advise that, simply awefull!

If anyone has the option to buy an hx903 and can actually get hold of one i highly advise it, it is quiet simply a staggering set.

Regards Justin

[update]

Having just watched most of Alice In Wonderland in 3D i can say that it is VERY belivable and immersive, the background does lose a bit of detail but i dont know whether that to make the 3D more noticable or a lack of detail on my TV/ Bluray/ cable or the bluray its self, it can strain your eyes a bit as you or i certainly notice myself moving focus a lot more due to the main character being significantly more dominant due to the 3D, but with that in the back of my mind at the moment im looking forward to a weekend of heavy testing.

i will keep you all updated with my progress and views.

Regards Justin.

[update #2]

Having just watched Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs in 3D i can say; wow, this is so far the best 3D film i have seen (hopefully till Avatar gets released), it really is phenominal in 3D, on a couple of occasions i paused it at a really immersive 3D part and watked around the TV to see if you lost the 3D effect, and you have to stand above the TV at an accute angle to lose the effect, this film has more detail than Alice In Wonderland and weiredly only loses detail at the front of the picture and not in the background like the afformentioned film, there is minimal crosstalk, you have to really look for faults to notice it and seeing as this is a new TV i am doing just that, so far the minimal crosstalk is the only fault i have found, as i 2D perfomer this is an astounding set and as a 3D performer so far very good, the best ii have seen thus far.

Alice in Wonderland is a 2d>3d conversion, if you watch it in 2d you will notice it's the way it's filmed to have the main character in sharp focus then blur the background, it's the style of the film. This can lead to problems when trying to look at anything other than what is the main subject when viewing in 3d, in 2d you just take it for granted.

[update #3]

I have just watched Bolt 3D and can say . . . . nothing really! it simply beggars belive how good it was in my eyes, the edges were really defined and the 3D is truly immersive, i forgot i was wearing the glasses at all!

Anyone who is a doubter on 3D simply hasnt auditioned the hx903! i auditioned an inferior Sony model and had my doubtes, the vt20 doesnt even deserve a mention on this thread in my eyes it was simply awefull and i know im going to get some hate for that one but this is simply my opinion on that model, the Samsung that i auditioned was mediocre but this hx903 that i have now . . . . .wow imm so glad that i held out for the hx903 and didnt buckle to temptation and get a Samsung c9000.

Again i emplore you, if you have the option to aquire an hx903 buy it!!

Sounds really good

Interesting what you say about this film. I haven't yet watched the other films in the Sony 3D pack, but having watched Alice I was fairly unimpressed. I guess this goes back to the point that any material that is not specifically filmed for 3D is likely to be something of a poor relation to the material which has been created for the 3d market. Fingers crossed for Avatar. It does make me think that if films are converted after compilation then the 3d genre may not last very long - unless the technology gets a whole lot better. Just a thought.

[update #4]

Having watched a few native 3D films now, i think crosstalk may be down to the disk itself as well as the sources, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs had virtually no crosstalk at all on my TV and sources yet Alice In Wonderland had a little and with Bolt i my have been a bit over eagre in posting on this forum, i posted after 15mins into Bolt as i was that impressed with the first 15mins i thought "I MUST SHARE THIS WITH THE FORUM NOW!" yeh, there was quiet a substantial amount of crosstalk in that film towards the end, i look forward to more native 3D content filmed with better cameras.

jst23,

Thanks for giving us your experience with this set. Personally, I am not interested in 3D but am interested in this set as a 2D performer, so what are your thoughts 2D only? Would I be better getting a 2D only Sony 46", or is this tv simply the most superior PQ per say? I currently have a 37" plasma and sitting around 11 feet from tv, so I assume a 46" will be okay, and one sitting position is at a 60 degree angle, so how is the Sony when viewing at an acute angle?

Thanks,

Pauled51

Before i upgraded to the hx903 i had a w4500, the w4500 was an excellent performer but my word this hx903 is simply staggering as a 2d performer as well as 3d. It is quiet simply the best picture i have ever seen. before i opted for the hx903 i auditioned a few sets, namely the Panna vt20 and another sony set, i foprget the model numberm, but wasnt overly impressed with either, my advice to you is this:

If you can get your hands on one, do it! you will not be dissapointed!!

im glad your so happy with it jst, i bet you're glad you held on now

.. ill have to try and get a look at one in action sometime if i can ever find one...

I'm glad i hung on too max, i know i would have been pleased with the samsung, but not as pleased im sure as i am with this set, IF you can actually get hold of one you really should try it out, it really is that good

How do the black levels measure up against the old pioneers?

Cheers

ill be honest Gel i have never experianced the Pioneer, i know they are the referance kind of sets, but i can say when i watch a movie with deep black i struggle to tell where the screen ends and the surround starts!

For such a good tv it seems a real shame that it has been in such short supply and that people like John Lewis have not had one.

As im sure you know it took me 3 months to get one! but it really is worth the wait!

[update #4]

Just watched Monster House 3D, and i have to say i wasn't too kean on this film from the cover etc, but having watched it, it is not only a good film but in my opnion the best 3D film i have watched yet! very little crosstalk and the story lines good as well, but this isnt a film forum so ill stop there. There were a couple of point in the film where i paused it at a really good 3D point, i walked up to my tv and was like a little kid, i was swiping just in front of the tv trying to grap the picture! so far the only down points to this tv are the 3D discs, having watched 4 3D films so far and the crosstalk being so random i really do think its the discs, i mean obviously some of it must be my TV but its just so inconsistant.

Take Bolt 3D for example, the crosstalk was almost unbearable at points, not just on the edge of the picture but right at the focal point! it really destroyed the viewing pleasure, but with Monster House and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs there is minimal crosstalk and truly immersive 3D, i recommend both of these titles for anyone out ther who owns a 3D tv.

Regards Justin.
