I used a Musical Fidelity V-DAC with an Apple TV - works well.

Otherwise straight from your MacBook Pro's optical output via USB or optical.

Here's another couple of options to place between your MacBook and Densen.

HRT Music Streamer II (£169):

Epiphany Acoustics E-DAC (£89):

Have you tried? If this is not satidfactory, then something like the Beresford Bushmaster or TEAC UDH01. That way you retain wireless connectivity.

I play music from my Macbook Pro (Spotify & iTunes), I've had an Airport Express connected to my Denon amp for 18 months or so but wasn't happy with the sound so I bought a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 100 (£199) on Friday which is connected to my Macbook Pro via USB and it sounds a hell of a lot better than the Airport Express did, I still use the AE but for wireless streaming from my iPad

In a short answer buy a DAC ;)
