How to Connect an Active Subwoofer to a Sound Reinforcement System

A subwoofer improves the bass quality of your music exponentially. An active subwoofer does not require a separate power amplifier and sounds much better than a passive system of equivalent power. This tutorial will walk you through the steps required to connect an active subwoofer to a sound reinforcement system.

Step 1
Connect the subwoofer to the receiver

Connect the subwoofer input cable directly to the power output on the receiver using an RCA cable. Ensure that the right polarities are maintained throughout. This will begin the setup of the subwoofer.

Step 2
Connect another RCA cable through the subwoofer

Connect another RCA cable to the subwoofer. This will enable connection to the sound reinforcement system.

Connect the subwoofer to the sound reinforcement system

Connect the second RCA cable from the subwoofer to the sound reinforcement system. Ensure that the right polarities are maintained throughout. This will prepare the subwoofer for audio transmission through the sound reinforcement system.

Step 4
Turn on the subwoofer and the sound reinforcement system

Turn on the subwoofer and the sound reinforcement that are now connected to each other. Play your music on the media player connected to the sound reinforcement system. You can stream music either using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Use the remote to adjust the bass and volume. The subwoofer and the sound reinforcement system are now connected to each other.
