TBH, not sure the piece told us very much: to me it seemed like all the gimmickry got in the way of any sensible conclusion (as is the usual Gadget Show way), and I don't quite get the bit about making the sample track by recording the sound from speakers around the studio using an omnidirectional microphone.

Why not just record each channel separately and then mix it (which is what it seems they actually did)?

The microphone was just above where the head would be, therefore it will pick up the sound just like a person seated below, which all things being equal means if the system is doing its job it should sound identical to how it was recorded.

The results that came out pretty much matched the WHF test results, thus proving that the tests used by both companies are valid. (Other reviews also back this up)
