I have just bought the new combined HD/DVD version, and I wouldn't bother investing in this if you have the old version unless you have a HDDVD player. The majority of the tests for standard definition are the same as in the old one, although there are extra HD tests on the other side of the DVD which is in HDDVD format.
I must admit that I'm struggling to understand some of the technical stuff in the disc. There seems to be a lot of stuff that is testing the same thing and it doesn't really explain what to expect from the pattern. Another area to look at before you buy this thing is how many of your settings you can change on your equipment. I have a Panasonic TX32 LXD700 TV, Marantz DV7001 DVD player and between them the only things that I can change are the standard brightness, contrast and colour. Therefore I can only change the greyscale aspects of the set and am unable to accurately change the Red, Green and Blue aspects of the picture.
After spending hours trying to sort out the picture the result is no different to the pre-sets and in some situations the pre-set is far better.
I'm really not sure about the value of this product. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it!
Cheers.
