Quick question, when the What HiFi Team say a player does/doesn't sound refined, what does that mean exactly about the way it sounds?

Cheers

Yep, that's about it!

Many hi-fi products can sound extremely exciting at first listen, charging through music and really punching out the tunes. However, when you get to a song or a classical piece that requires a more measured approach - the delicate intonation in voices, say, or the pluck of strings or gentle percussion - some products can lose out; they fail to offer the necessary finesse to do justice to that track.

A true all-rounder, however, can take the rough with the smooth; the raw and the delicate, and present them with equal ability.
